New fish feed spawns 30 jobs
According to RTÉ, Ocean Harvest Technology says the new seaweed-based compound it has designed will replace existing synthetic salmon feeds, and has the capacity to revolutionise the farmed salmon industry.
OceanFeed is a proprietary blend of seaweeds sourced from around the world, with some of the most important elements harvested exclusively off the Irish coast. The new feed will enable the production of the world's first organically raised farmed salmon, the news source reports.
The Tuam plant is to go into production in June. Its new organic feedstuff will be exported to the world's leading fish farming centers in Scotland, Norway and Chile.
