New feed to protect weakened salmon
According to informartion from Biomar, this is not a medicinal feed, it is a functional feed created for fish that suffer from reduced absorption of nourishment and reduced appetite due to disease.
Pancreas disease (PD) and some of the other virus diseases attack parts of the fish’s digestive system. The pancreas of the fish is frequently affected, often seriously. A weakened pancreas results in reduced production of digestive enzymes and affects digestion dramatically. This places heavy demands on the raw material sources used in the feed. The nutrients must be fully suitable for absorption in fish intestines. actio has these qualities and is therefore a general restitutive feed for use in the case of diseases that in some way affect and weaken the digestive system in fish.
- The new feed actio is part of Biomar’s Smartfeed range of health and specialist feeds”, says Vidar Gundersen (photo), Product Manager of BioMar’s Marketing Division. “You could say that this feed is the opposite of primo, which provides the fish with higher resistance during periods when virus and bacteria attacks are likely – by means of preventative feeding.
Trygve Sigholt, Divisional Manager of R&D Norway, says that actio contains essential nutrients that are easily absorbed in the intestines. These are specific raw materials that are not present in standard growth feed. Important additives include large quantities of micro-nutrients and extra vitamin E and C, which are important for the immune system. In addition the feed contains a special type of nucleotides that strengthen the development of the white blood vessels/immune cells and are building blocks in DNA/RNA, which are important in virus protection. The formula is based on in-depth knowledge of nutrition including restitutive nutrition for both humans and livestock.
