New chairperson announced for licence appeal board
The Aquaculture Licences Appeals Board was established in 1998 under the Fisheries (Amendment) Act 1997 to provide an independent authority for the determination of appeals against decisions of the minister on aquaculture licence applications. The Board comprises a chairperson and six members.Minister Smith said: “I am pleased that Mr O'Connell has accepted this appointment. His legal background makes him ideally qualified to fill the role. His experience in the law library and the courts will certainly stand to him in his deliberations in this area. I wish him all the best.” Minister Killeen added: “Mr O'Connell faces a challenging task as the new Chairperson of the ALAB and I am confident he will bring excellent leadership and judgement skills to bear in this context. I would like to wish him the very best as he embarks on his new role.”
