The Chilean Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Sernapesca) has reported that the farming site ‘Ballena 1’, belonging to Salmones Cupquelan, has been categorized as confirmed with an HPR other than zero, as established in the programme of monitoring and control of ISA virus.

José Miguel Burgos, national director of Sernapesca, said: “The confirmation of this case was determined under the surveillance established in ISA sanitary programme and the Resolution 814, which established the zoning in the fjord”.

The affected site is located in the Cupquelan fjord, in the south of Aysen and, as stated by the Authority, the strain detected corresponds to HPR 3, the same one that hit the farming site ‘Las Mentas 2’ last February and ‘Ballena 4’ in October 2014. All these sites are located in neighborhood 25-A.

Sernapesca will now maintain surveillance of ‘Ballena 1’ and ‘Las Mentas 2’ as well as the other farms in the surrounding area, carrying out a strict supervision of biosecurity measures.
