Hans den Bieman is a well-respected name in Chile’s salmon industry and it comes as no surprise that he is making a comeback. Bieman began his career in Chilean salmon farming in the early 90’s as general manager of both Skretting (originally Trouw Chile) and Marine Harvest (originally Mares Australes). He pioneered the transformation of Marine Harvest into a fully integrated international enterprise in the year 2000, and for floating it on the stock market as a company independent from the financial holding group Nutreco in 2005. He was ousted from the company earlier this year as a result of the buyout process from PanFish. According to an interview with Aqua.cl, executive President José Ramón Gutiérrez of Multiexport Foods is pleased to have Bieman on his side. “This is great news for our company, our business partners and our stockholders. The decision strengthens our plan for growth, with vision towards globalizing our production, continuing our advancement in the exploitation of new species (as we’ve already done with mussels), as well as continuing our growth of salmon production in Chile.” Multiexport Foods is currently composed of three business groups: Salmones Multiexport, Mytilus Multiexport, and Cultivos Acuícolas Internacionales (a filial dedicated to the development of new aquaculture species).
