Multiexport fired 400 workers

Last Tuesday, Multiexport fired 400 workers with indefinite term contracts and another 300 workers with fixed term contracts from its processing plant in Puerto Montt. According to the local newspaper El Llanquihue, the company would have fired these employees due to too high costs they had in the processing plant.

Despite these dismissals, the company explained that they are not shutting down their processing plant but they are in a restructuring process and these fired workers can reapply for the same jobs.

The general manager of Multiexport Foods, Andrés Lyon, commented that these workers can reapply for the same jobs but under new labor conditions and with salaries at fair market values.

Together with this decision, the company split its operations into two divisions: farming and processing.
