Mortality rates have decreased to less than half
The general manager of the Association of the Chilean Salmon Industry (SalmonChile), Carlos Odebret, explained that the current mortality rate is 7.8% in the whole life cycle, which is less than a half of the 17% cumulative mortality rate obtained during the darkest days of the sanitary crisis.
Among other production indexes, he also commented that the average harvest weight for Atlantic salmon has been increasing since its lowest level (2.5 kilos) in March 2009, due to the sanitary measures implemented by the local producing companies. “Today, we have 5.5 kilos as an average harvest weight and increasing,” Odebret said.
