More mergers mooted

The Schörghuber Corporate Group, which owns Ventisqueros, expects to continue playing an active part in the consolidation process of the Chilean salmon industry. Following the acquisition of Glaciares and last year's successful integration of that new company into its seafood division, the group has recently begun negotiations with the owner of Marine Farm Granja Marina Tornagaleones (GMT).

The German company said that the goal of these negotiations is to build a joint-venture company with equal shareholdings which will hold all shares of Granja Marina Tornagaleones and Ventisqueros in a Chilean intermediate holding.

Granja Marina Tornagaleones, which is part of the holding company of Ramón Eblen, is similar in size to Ventisqueros and has an equally diversified product portfolio including Atlantic salmon, coho salmon and salmon trout. Both parties have agreed to keep the details of the negotiations confidential.
