Mitsubishi diversifies into salmon production
This agreement would satisfy a longtime desire of Mitsubishi which started 10 years ago, when the company expressed its interest in the Chilean salmon industry for the first time.
Currently, Prinar operates its own processing plant in Puerto Montt and according to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, it is most probable that Southern Cross Seafoods is going to buy salmon and trout in Chile and then will process those fish (intended for the Japanese market) in the plant of Prinar.
Regarding the ownership, Prinar – pertaining to the local entrepreneur Eduardo Kipreos is expected to hold 20% of the new company, while Mitsubishi will maintain the remaining 80% participation.
