Reach the production goal of 1 million tonnes of salmonids by 2020 is not the major concern of Mr Longueira. His major concern is to have again a sanitary crisis in the Chilean salmon industry. The Minister Longueria added that "so far, the salmon producing companies have not demonstrated an ability to self-regulate themselves and avoid a sanitary crisis."

According to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, the Minister of Economy said that several data regarding production growth and farming densities are in the same direction as those seen prior to the "ISA crisis". However, Mr Longueira thinks that given the low salmon price experienced these days it is possible to reorganize this situation, since a lot of investments and production plans might be postponed.

The Minister Longueira also calls the local companies to act with a sense of responsibility and asks them to carry out their self-regulation. "If there is no good behavior, the Authority will act because we will not allow a behavior which attempts against the sustainability of this species and generates a new sanitary crisis," he said.
