AquaChile raises its capital by US$100 million
Behind closed doors in the legal offices of Carey & Allende in Santiago today, Victor Hugo Puchi, CEO of Empresas AquaChile S.A. met with co-directors Humberto and Claudio Fischer, Mario and Juan Carlos Puchi (brothers of Victor Hugo), and the other private shareholders of the company to confirm and define their investment strategy to put US$ 100 million more into the company. Although Victor Hugo declined to press questions following the meeting, according to the business and finance and newspaper La Estrategia the move to raise such capital could be motivated by the interest to attract a new company into the group’s holding. Last June negotiations were in process to incorporate the company Pesquera Friosur, owned by the Del Río family, but no deal was reached. Friosur has a record of US$ 70 million in annual sales, and when asked (in June) about the possibility of joining AquaChile, vicepresident Carlos Vial stated, “AquaChile is ten times our size, and is a very attractive company to join.”
