In an Oslo stock exchange announcement, Akva Group announced that it has been awarded a new contract with Cermaq Norway for the post-smolt plant at Sørøya in Finnmark, which will produce 12 million post smolts. The estimated value of the contract is US$63 million. The design and engineering work will begin immediately.

- For Akva, this contract with Cermaq Norway represents the largest contract in Norway and will support the level of activity in our land-based aquaculture business for years to come, commented Akva Group CEO Knut Nesse.

Nesse told LandbasedAQ that it is too early to tell what the market's reaction will be after the Storting recently passed the new tax-proposal for fish farmers.

- It will be exciting to see the development in the second half of the year. This contract is very important to us given its size. This ensures continuous activity , he specified.

Fish health in mind

In a Cermaq press release, they report that the facility will be ready in 2026 and will be specially designed with fish health in mind.

- It will secure current jobs and business in Nordland and Finnmark, but will not take future growth into account due to uncertain framework conditions, Cermaq detailed.
