The Dundee-based firm was also a finalist in the Science and Technology Business of the Year Category won by cash machine maker NCR, and Ace Aquatec’s managing director, Nathan Pyne-Carter, was a finalist in the Entrepreneur of the Year category won by John Reynolds of Castle Water, a leading independent company.

Pyne-Carter said: “We’re delighted to have won the Design and Innovation Business of the Year. Dundee is a vibrant and exciting place to do business and we’re very grateful for all the support from Scottish Development International, Scottish Enterprise and grant bodies who have supported our work.

“As always, it’s our fantastic customers and technology partners that make the great work we do possible. Thank you to everyone.”

Series of accolades

The award is the latest in a series of accolades for the company, which supplies seal scarers, cage cameras and a pre-slaughter stunning system to fish farmers.

In 2016 the then Dingwall-based firm was presented with the inaugural Aquaculture Innovation Award at Aquaculture UK, and last year scooped the prestigious Innovation Award at the Aqua Nor trade show in Trondheim, Norway.

Earlier this year it was also presented with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the innovation category. Pyne-Carter said the award was specifically for growth and innovation in seal deterrent systems, recognising significant investment in research and development, and benefits to the aquaculture industry from those developments.
