Scottish Salmon Co wins two finals places in Expo awards

The Scottish Salmon Company has had two products selected for the final of the Seafood Excellence Global Awards, which will be presented at Seafood Expo Global in Barcelona later this month.

The company’s Tartan Salmon Label Rouge Fresh Scottish Salmon Fillet is one of just six products listed in the Horeca (hotels, restaurants, catering) category, while its Native Hebridean Smoked Scottish Salmon is one of 33 products in the retail category.

Two grand prizes will be awarded for the Best Retail Product and the Best Horeca Product. Five special awards will be presented for innovation, convenience, health and nutrition, retail packaging and seafood product line.

‘Our Hebridean hero’

SSC’s Native Hebridean Smoked Scottish Salmon won the Best New Foodservice award at the 2022 Seafood Excellence Awards at Seafood Expo North America (SENA) in Boston in March.

The product is not actually “new”, having been on the market and picked up other awards in the past two years, but this year was the first time the company – owned by Faroese salmon farmer Bakkafrost –had the opportunity to exhibit the product at SENA, which was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid.

Speaking after the Boston win, SSC’s business development director, Su Cox, said: “Native Hebridean is a truly unique product having been specially developed over more than a decade and the award win is testament to this. It offers the discerning consumer a truly Scottish delicacy with unique heritage and is fully traceable to the Hebridean islands and West Coast of Scotland. It is our Hebridean hero.”

All seafood products entered for the Seafood Expo Global awards competition will be displayed during the three-day event in the Seafood Excellence Global stand located in the Galleria, between halls 4 and 5 of the at the Fira de Barcelona venue.

The winners will be announced at an awards ceremony and reception in the Fira de Barcelona’s Gran Via venue on April 26 in CC5, room 5.1 from 19:15 until 21:00.
