Price peaks early
The average export price of HOG Norwegian salmon appears to have peaked earlier than usual, with a €0.22 drop experienced in week 50 compared to week 49.
While the price is still a very decent €5.28 per kg – up on the same week last year – week 50 tends to be the best price of the year, given its proximity to Christmas. However, this year week 49 appears to have achieved the pre-Christmas peak, when it hit €5.50, according to the latest Fishpool figures.
In terms of volumes, exports were up 1147 tonnes compared to week 49 and down 261 tonnes compared to week 50 last year.
The average price has now been consistently above 2014’s levels since late May and, looking ahead, Fishpool predicts the average monthly prices to remain well over €5 per kg (and over NOK 50 per kg) until at least April.
