A study presented by Biorigin showed the results of the supplementation of female dogs with MacroGard before spaying. After pilot studies, the surgery was used as an immunosuppression experimental model. During post-op, the supplemented dogs presented better immune response, higher blood leukocyte counts, and reduced inflammatory response, as shown by the lowers levels of C-reactive protein. MacroGard is composed exclusively of purified beta 1,3 / 1,6 glucans extracted from the cell wall of Saccharomyces cerevisae and modulates the animal’s immune response according to its immune status, promoting better immune status and health. The results of this study, together with other studies with pets, add evidences to the scientific dossier of the product and confirm its immunomodulating effects. The results of Selemax supplementation to dogs was presented in the poster session. This study showed that the organic selenium present in Selemax reduced oxidative stress, and therefore, improved the health of dogs submitted to adverse situations compared with an inorganic selenium source. Selemax is a selenized yeast produced by Biorigin. This organic selenium source was proven to be efficient and safe, and it is approved by the EFSA (European Food Safety Association – Journal 2012; 10(7):2779). According to Biorigin’s Feed Technical Expert, Fernando Roberti, “it is an honor for the company to have two of their studies selected for presentation in such an important event. I personally attended the presentations and was very happy to see the positive reactions of the people present.” Feed Business Global Manager, Roberto Vituzzo, added: “Biorigin continuously invests in the development of technical and scientific information, ensuring the synergy between the research carried out in our R&D Center and in partnerships with universities and research centers in Brazil and around the world. It is essential to publicize the excellent results were have obtained with our products.”
