World’s largest wellboat
The Patagon VI is the sixth wellboat constructed by the shipbuilder Asenav for their customer and sister company, the Patagona Wellboat company. According to aqua.cl, Asenav has worked in conjunction with Vik-Sankvik ship design consultants. Asenav, Patagonia Wellboats, Patagonia Salmon Farming, Patagonia Smolts, and Patagonia Airways are all companies belonging to the Kossman family. Patagonia Wellboats currently has 5 wellboats in operation ranging in capacity of 360 cubic meters to 800 cubic meters. The Patagon VI, which is to be christened in Puerto Montt on August 8th, will have just over 800 cubic meters and a carrying capacity of180 tons of live fish. The boat is 50 meters long, 14 meters wide, and can travel up to 12.5 knots. It was designed for the transport of fish between the regions of Puerto Montt and Puerto Aysén.
