According to a press release from Aguas Claras (a company within Empresas AquaChile) last week, their processing plant near Puerto Montt would be back in operation as of Monday 17. However, a press release from the Union Federation of salmon workers today states that 500 of the 625 union members have voted in favor of the continuation of the strike. An important motivational factor for the unions’ resistence was the news that the denouncement of Aguas Claras on behalf of the unions, for disloyal practices regarding the right for a collective negotiation btween unions, was finally approved in Santiago. The next step for the workers’ unions is to take the company to court in to the Lakes Region, to fight for their right for a collective negotiation with the company.
