Workers take protest to Treasury Minister

It is not his specific job, nor could he give any concrete solutions, but the Treasury Minister Andrés Velasco sat and conversed with workers’ syndicate representatives from the plant Aguas Claras, a company belonging to Empresas AquaChile. Plant workers halted production on early Wednesday morning after receiving news that the plant had decided to immediately terminate 42 workers. “The firing of these people was in an unjustifiable manner. The argument of reduction in production is not an excuse to get rid of workers who have an average of six years of service at the plant. We ask of the Minister that he communicate personally with board of directors of AquaChile, because we do not want the issue to escape from our hands.” Minister Velasco listened to the workers arguments, but since he could not promise any definite change from his position, he passed the buck on to those who are able: the Regional Governor and Senator, and the Regional Ministry of Labour.
