Vote on aquaculture bill postponed
Besides, those clauses related to labour obligations and a mortgage system for concessions caused controversy in this session, where senators José Antonio Gómez, Sergio Romero, Jaime Gazmuri, Antonio Horvath, Camilo Escalona and Pedro Muñoz disagreed about the article that allows companies to mortgage concessions with their creditors and those articles that establish that aquaculture concessions will not be renewed after three executed judgments due to antiunion practices within three productive cycles.
Senator Antonio Horvath, who preside the Fisheries Commission, stated that this legislative bill includes several sanitary, labour and environmental norms that will benefit aquaculture. “This regulation will put this sector in order, guaranteeing sustainability for aquaculture over time” he said.
In turn, Senator Camilo Escalona emphasized the work of that commission in the sense of establishing a regulation for this activity and including for the first time environmental norms such as the definition of escape of farming species as a felony.
