Ventisqueros invests in a new hatchery
The firm leased this facility for five years and required the expenditure of USD 1 million in upgrading and refurbishment of this hatchery and a nearby freshwater farming site. According to the company, although the salmon crisis experienced in the country, they are increasingly investing in this farming stage aware of its importance to the final productive results.
Besides, Ventisqueros is fostering a change in their way of farming, implementing the tighter biosecurity measures and the higher technology, the company said. Their final target aims to produce 11 million smolts of the three main species farmed in Chile (Atlantic salmon, Rainbow trout and Coho salmon) within the 2009/2010 seedtime period.
Last year, Ventisqueros was ranked 12th among the Chilean salmon producers companies, with USD 51 million in sales.
