Value up - volume down
According to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Export Council the value from salmon export was 2,3 billion NOK in February 2011, 16% above the February 2010 level. In the same month the volume was reduced by 2% to 54 000 tons.
The demand for Norwegian salmon is still increasing, and this is the most important reason behind the high prices. Average price for fresh Atlantic salmon from Norway was 40,46 NOK in February 2011, 0,68 NOK above the February 2010 average price.
The most important market for Norwegian salmon is France.
