Two new escapes
On 2 November, a total of 2090 salmon escaped from the Scottish Salmon Company’s Quarry Point site in Strathclyde. The fish were around 12 months old and weighed an average of 2.8kg. The site has both salmon and wrasse in the pens. The cause of the escape was a hole in the net, the company reported.
Then, on 8 November, a human error caused one salmon to escape from Marine Harvest Scotland’s Loch Greshornish site in the Highlands.
So far in 2014, there have been 11 escape incidents involving salmon in Scotland. A total of 182,113 salmon have escaped, according to escape statistics from the Scottish government.
