Tornagaleones will raise its sowings this year
In terms of production, Ochagavía explained that "We hope to produce about 13,000 tonnes this year, a little less than last year when we reach 18,000 tonnes. We operate about 15 concessions in the country while our total stock is 28 sites.”
Regarding the expansion of the sector into the 12th Region (Magellan), where there are 1,200 concessions awaiting approval, Ochagavía said that "It would be an interesting and strategic expansion, especially considering that the neighborhoods mandatorily implemented by law imply that we lose between 30-35% of our annual production capacity. Magellan, then, is a real chance of returning to the previous volumes," he stated.
According to Estrategia, regarding relocation of sites, Ochagavía said that "it is rather a fantasy and very difficult to carry out since there is no room, especially in the 10th Region (The Lakes)."
Within three to four years the industry will have a more massive occupancy level of concessions than today, said Ochagavía, "achieving a production level similar or slightly lower than what was obtained before the ISA virus but it will not be exceeded, even with the concessions that are about to be approved in the 12th Region. That is a lesson from past practices that the industry already learned," he said.
Tornagaleones is the 10th largest Chilean salmon exporter as of May with sales for USD 25.0 million.
