According to Estrategia, in 2008 the Chilean salmon industry exported 48,600 tonnes worth USD 2,475 million; exports in 2009 decreased to half that values; and this year’s production won’t surpass a third of 2008 results due to early harvests and less fish entering to sea.

That last variable might be increased in the second half of this year, especially with 20% more Atlantic salmon entering to sea. Because of that, 2010 will probably be the last year with negative results for this sector.

Regarding to advances towards a new production model, from the 58 sanitary areas (neighbourhoods) established back in 2008, today 39 sanitary areas are already working and some others are expected to sum up this year.
