The company stated that the main purpose of this project is to contribute to an efficient salmon production. They expect to achieve that goal “through the production of high-quality smolts, using production methods of low environmental impact with a special focus on biosecurity, in order to produce disease-free smolts”.

Salmones Maullín also detailed that all the production of that facility will take place in land-based ponds “using advanced recycling water technologies to insulate it from sanitary risks” and among other specific objectives, they expects to produce the different stages of fish from roe to smolt. 24 million smolts every year is also one of their goals.

They already started the procedures required by the public Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA) and the construction of this facility is expected to start by October 2010.
