Strong increase in seafood exports
- Strong growth in seafood exports this year can largely be attributed to higher salmon prices compared to the same period last year. Export growth is particularly strong in our local market in the EU, where we see a growth of 18 percent year to date. In the month of September, we also see an increase in exports of products from the fisheries sector, says Egil Ove Sundheim, director of market information, Norwegian Seafood Council. Growth of salmon In September the export of salmon totaled at 3,4 billion NOK.. This is an increase of 964 million or 40 percent compared to last September. This year's salmon exports of 27.3 billion NOK, an increase of 6.1 billion or 29 percent compared to last year. The average price for whole fresh Norwegian salmon in the month of September was 33.48 NOK/kg to 26.34 NOK/kg in September 2012.
As for the previous month, France and Poland the biggest buyers of salmon from Norway. Trout exports increased by 41 percent or 59 million to a total of 204 million in September. This year, exports of trout for 1.6 billion, an increase of NOK 383 million compared to 2012. The largest buyers of trout from Norway, Russia and Belarus.
