The company was presented with NOK 100,000 (£7689), a diploma and a work of art, at a special ceremony in Trondheim last night.

Stranda Prolog’s Helixir barge allows producers to reduce the amount of drugs, such as hydrogen peroxide, used for lice treatments by up to 98%.

The innovation is based on a system that allows reuse of the chemicals used in bath treatments, requiring only 350m3 of water to treat a cage of 200,000 3.5 kg salmon, representing 98% less than a tarpaulin treatment and 95% less than a wellboat treatment – which allows a similar reduction in the volume of chemicals required in the treatment process.

The other two finalists were Protex AS, for their range of revolutionary work wear for farmers and Storvik Aqua AS, with Ebtech, who are hoping to patent a 3-D biomass salmon counter.
