Stagnation in Chilean seafood export
The number that reflects a stagnation in the sector growth, because it is only a 0,7% superior to the value of the same month of the previous year. Meanwhile, the export volume went 214 thousand tons to the fourth month of this year.
Figures form the Fisheries Undersecretariat (Subpesca) show that farmed Atlantic salmon is still the biggest product exported from the aquaculture sector in Chile. This product diminished its value compared with April 2008, mainly because of the fall of the volume exported of fresh to the United States and frozen to Germany.
According to the report, this deficit could not be compensated by the increase of the frozen products sent to Brazil and China.
Behind farmed Atlantic salmon comes trout and coho farmed salmon. After salmonids, mussels shows a level of deficit to April of 37,3%.
Frozen products are the dominant of the aquaculture exports in Chile, representing the 72,5% of the sector value in total.
