Sølvtrans presents strong results
The fleet had a total utilisation rate of 80 percent, compared with 75 percent in the first quarter last year. Due to transfer and commencement of operations in Chile, two of the vessels had no revenues during the quarter. The remainder of the fleet showed an income-generating employment of 94 percent.
"Even though we have moved and prepared Ronia Pacific and Ronia Austral for operations in Chile, we still have improved our performance in terms of utilisation rate and income in the quarterly period compared to last year," says Roger Halsebakk, CEO of Sølvtrans.
During the quarter, Sølvtrans has contracted a new 3000 m3 vessel with state-of-the-art technology and environmentally friendly solutions. The newbuild is important for Sølvtrans to meet higher requirements from customers, and in order to respond to a growing imbalance in the wellboat market. The vessel is scheduled for delivery in June 2013.
Growth in salmon production is expected to continue. Combined with more focus on environmental issues as well as further consolidation and professionalization among fish farmers, this indicates positive market outlook for the well-boat industry. Further, the dedication to combat sea lice and infectious diseases makes the picture look particularly promising for larger and more efficient vessels with closed technology.
