Skretting invests for flexibility in oils at Invergordon
The new oil system is the final step in a £5.2-million upgrade at Invergordon. When in action, in the second quarter of 2009, it will routinely supply any blend from four or five oils directly to each of the three feed production lines.
“In phase one of the upgrade we installed three new 650-tonne tanks alongside the two we already had,” explains Chris Bryden, Plant Manager.
“Now, in phase two, all tanks are being linked up to the production lines, with heating and dosing equipment to provide a highly versatile oil blending system,” Bryden explains.
The first stage of the plant upgrade, completed in 2008, has already delivered measurable benefits, he reveals: “We increased production per hour by over 60 per cent.
“We produce significantly more in five days now than we did in seven.
“Measuring our performance by the widely applied Overall Equipment Efficiency method, our OEE score has climbed 23 per cent and is still rising. We are approaching world class standards and intend to arrive in 2009; well ahead of any other feed plant in the UK and many in Europe.”
