Seafish launches consultation document for serving industry between 2011 and 2013
The Seafish consultation document sets out how the UK’s only cross-industry seafood body intend to serve industry over the next three years, and is part of a year-long consultation process - which included the Industry Business Conference in September.
One of Seafish’s goals for the period is to support quality and efficiency standards through for example export developments including trade show activities, as well as creating new codes of practice and working on new international standards with the industry, e.g. for aquaculture.
Promoting health messages about seafood to consumers is another key area. Seafish says it is planning on increasing awareness of the health message in the general population. It also states that more of the under-55 population will consume seafood year-on-year and that more seafood packaging will carry the health messages each year.
Moroever, in 2010 Seafish will establish a panel of industry experts to guide Seafish work with consumers. It will also help industry to communicate sustainability issues to consumers.
They will also create an annual survey of consumer concerns about seafood, publish material to improve consumer understanding of the marine environment and establish industry responses on seafood issues.
