Pablo Galilea, Under-secretary of Fisheries, has explained that the foundation of an Under-secretariat of Aquaculture has been already approved by the Minister of Economy. However, this new institution will require some time before operation, to define its structure, resources and relations with the Under-secretariat of Fisheries (Subpesca), he commented.

According to the financial journal Estrategia, this new Under-secretariat will be in charge of providing a strong setting for the development of the Chilean salmon industry, which is expected to increase its annual turnover from US$ 3,000 million to US$ 5,000 million in 2020.

Meanwhile, the new Sanitary Regulation for Aquaculture (RESA, according to its Spanish initials) was approved last Tuesday. This is one of the most important complementary regulations to the General Law on Fisheries and Aquaculture because it determines how to operate in the different zones or ‘neighborhoods’ and defines new requirements to follow.
