Sanctions prove an empty threat
Speaking to Fish Farming Expert after Putin had declared the extension, Geir Bakkevoll, Director of Communications at the Norwegian Seafood Council, explained: “Previous to the import ban, the Norwegian seafood industry had long experience with trade barriers in Russia, and was thus prepared for such situations. Although Russia was an important and a long-term development market for Norwegian seafood, the seafood industry has adapted to the situation in the year that has passed. In that perspective, the prolonging of the ban is not dramatic to the industry.”
