Sanctions benefit Chilean salmon

Christian Pérez   Chilean Trim-D salmon fillets were traded at an average price of US$ 4.55 per pound during week 35. This is the second weekly increase in a row and the same price registered at the end of July this year. The rise represents a 0.2 per cent, or 2 cents, increase compared to the price seen in the previous week, although it is 6.4 per cent lower than the price observed in the same week of 2013 (US$ 4.86). According to the weekly report published by SalmonEx, the Brazilian market had a big rise. The size 10-12, being the most representative, reached US$ 5.73/Kg, 21 cents higher than last week. In the Japanese market, the price of Coho and trout went up - the first to 780 yen/kg, 15 yen more than last week and the second reached 850 yen/kg, 25 yen higher than last week.
