Salmonids exports for USD 529 million in 1Q
Within the first quarter the salmon exports decreased 35% (USD 188 million) compared to the same period of 2009. This situation might be explained due to the strong contraction of the volume exported, which totalized 45,000 less tonnes than in 1Q 2009 according to the Monthly Report of External Trade published by the National Customs Service.
Meanwhile, the trout exports increased 13% (USD 21.2 million) compared to 1Q 2009, showing a 19% increase in the average price which compensated the 1,551 less tonnes exported this trimester.
Japan was the main market for both, salmon and trout, concentrating 45% and 65% of the total shipped amounts of each product, respectively.
