Salmones Camanchaca reported profits for 2013
Christian Pérez According to Camanchaca, this profit is a consequence of higher salmon prices in 2013 (+25.9% compared to 2012) and lower production costs for Atlantic salmon in the second-half year, that leaded to profits of US$ 6 million in Q3 2013 and US$ 14.3 million in Q4 2013. Regarding trout, the company experienced negative biological results throughout both past years, 2012 and 2013. Subsequently, Camanchaca informed that will not stock farming sites with trout this year or in 2015 either. The bacterial disease SRS would be the main responsible for higher mortality rates and early harvests in trouts. Moreover, Camanchaca explained that its current freshwater and sea water facilities with trout will be oriented to third-party companies. Finally, the company obtained returns of US$ 251.8 million in 2013, representing a 37.7 percent increase compared to the previous year.
