Salmon still popular food outside home
The NPD Group/CREST Fish/Seafood Analysis Q4 09, prepared for Seafish, shows the total out of home fish and seafood meals eaten in the UK have increased.
The total out of home fish servings showed that the total number of servings in YE Dec 08 was 494,619,100, while in YE Dec 09 it had increased to 520,990,200.
Salmon maintained 11 per cent of the total servings (59,486,350 servings) – the same percentage as in 2008. 8 per cent of these servings were grilled salmon (42,605,320 servings), while 3 per cent (16,881,030 servings) were smoked salmon.
Cod and other white fish had the greatest number of servings, and a large percentage of this was fried fish.
In the non fried fish category (140,414,100 servings), smoked salmon made up 12 per cent of the market while grilled salmon servings came to 30 per cent.
