Salmon firm creates new jobs

The company hopes to start production in the town today, after starting work on its new premises on the Station Industrial Park . The smokehouse is transferring its existing 15 staff to its new base and has recruited between 15 and 18 new staff from the Annan area. Andrew Potts, director, told News & Star: “Annan is an excellent location for us. We can have salmon in Glasgow ready for a flight to the states in about 90 minutes.” St James specialises in Scottish salmon smoked with aromatic oak chips from Scotch whisky casks and provides fish to customers’ specific requirements, working at the bespoke end of the food industry. It often flies orders to the United States within 24 hours of it being received. News of the jobs will come as a welcome boost to Annan’s food industry, after about 100 jobs were lost at the Young’s Seafood factory earlier this year.
