Salmon exports for US$ 251 million as of February

Besides, these results represent a 38.8% increase compared to the returns recorded by this industry in the first 2 months of 2010. As of February, the returns from Atlantic salmon exports have increased in US$ 50 million in a year-to-year comparison, while returns from Rainbow trout exports have increased US$ 20 million.

According to the Monthly Report of External Trade published by the National Customs Service, the main reason behind these improved results of Atlantic salmon exports relates to a 14% higher declared price accompanied by a 28% larger exported volume (5,000 extra tonnes compared to the same period of 2010).

Likewise, these improvements in Rainbow trout exports were due to 5% higher exported volumes and a 21% increase in the declared price.

Japan, was the main market for Chilean salmonids as of February 2011, concentrating 44% and 56% of the Atlantic salmon and Rainbow trout exports, respectively.
