Salmon exports exceeded USD 2 billion in 2009

A recently published National Customs Service’s report shows a 27.33% decrease in Atlantic salmon exports from USD 1,418 million in 2008 to USD 1,031 million in 2009; and a slight increase in Rainbow trout from USD 593 million to USD 594 million.

An interannual comparison of results itemized by specie also shows a 26.13% increase in Coho salmon exports from USD 338.3 million to USD 426.7 million. Finally, export of not specified salmonids worth USD 6.2 million in 2009, representing a 72.87% decrease compared with 2008 results.

According to the National Fisheries Service (Subpesca) harvests of salmonids decreased 35% between January and November of 2009 compared with the same period of the previous year.
