Salmon drives seafood growth
According to Bergens Tidende, it is the supply of portion-packed, skinless and boneless fillets that are the major cause of a 3,000 tonne increase in volume.
"Customers will have it easy and do not like skin and bones. The producers of whitefish still have a way to go in terms of making cod and pollock more consumer friendly in the stores," says regional manager in Domstein Seafood in Western Norway, Jorn-Åge Stikholm.
While salmon sales increased by 55 per cent over the past two years, other fresh fish sales only increased by 15 per cent.
