Salmon crisis impacts on Chilean industrial production
Sofofa detailed that the fishing sector (which includes fish farming) registered a 30.5% decrease compared with October 2008 figures, particularly influenced by the strong productive adjustment experienced in the salmon industry due to ISA virus and also because of an important decrease in the local fishmeal production. As a result of this, the fishing sector had a bearing on almost 2 percentage points in the industrial production decrease.
Chilean industrial production has decreased 10.6% as of October, whereas industrial sales have been reduced by 8.1% and domestic sales decreased 7.3% within the period.
