
Salmon and trout move in opposite directions in Chile
Chilean exports of Rainbow trout in June this year (US$ 69 million) were 15 percent higher than those obtained in the same month of 2011 (US$ 60 million) according to the Central Bank of Chile.
Considering that the combined local exports of Atlantic and Coho salmon registered US$ 1,092 million up to June this year, Chile exported US$ 1,635 million in salmonid products in the first half-year of 2012. This result represents an increase of 15.1 percent compared to the US$ 1,436 million obtained in the same period of 2011.
Moreover, these figures show how Rainbow trout has decrease its share in the product mix from 40.3 percent up to June 2011 to 33.2 percent in the first six months of this year.
