Roe to nowhere
Christian Pérez According to a report recently published by the National Fisheries Service (Sernapesca), Chile imported 18.70 million rainbow trout eggs in the first eight months of this year, which represent a 25 per cent decrease compared to the 24.95 million eggs imported in the same period of the previous year. Likewise, the country imported 12.1 million Atlantic salmon eggs up to August 2014, representing a 51.4 per cent decrease compared to the 24.9 million eggs imported in the same months of 2013. All the Atlantic salmon roe imports came from Iceland, while rainbow trout roe imports were all from Denmark in the first seven months of this year, just like in 2013.
