Roe imports have plummeted 24 percent this year

Christian Pérez According to a report recently published by the Chilean Under-Secretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca), 50.7 percent of those 49.3 million imported eggs were Rainbow trout fro Denmark and 49.3 percent were Atlantic salmon eggs from Iceland. Regarding the local production of roe, Chile has produced 400.8 million eggs up to July this year. In July, the local salmon industry produced 64.1 million eggs of Atlantic salmon (51%), Rainbow trout (13%) and Coho salmon (36%). Moreover, Sernapesca has imposed a temporally suspension over salmon roe imports while implements an update on the risk analysis of two diseases recently included in the Chilean list of high risk diseases.
