Region of Aysén to concentrate 59% of Chilean production
The local salmon industry will harvest 849,354 tonnes in Chile next year according to estimations presented by Juan Pablo Zanlungo, executive director of the Programme Cluster and Territory of the University of Chile. 499,367 of those tonnes would be harvested in the Region of Aysén, accounting for 59% of the total.
Meanwhile, Chile would reach harvests close to 926,740 tonnes by 2014 of which 54% (502,693 tonnes) would be produced in the Region of Aysén.
These data were presented at the seminar "Production model of the Chilean salmon industry: a long-term reflection" organized by the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture late September this year.
The information was based on data drawn from Sernapesca SIEP 2007-May 2012, and is also the result of the production model estimate Pi (t) +10%, which excludes firewall farming sites, 2012.
