The most recent report from the Regional Economic Activity Index submitted by the National Statistics Institute has shown a significant growth in all regions with salmon farming activities. The growth rate was of 36.4 percent in Aysén, of 19.3 percent in the 12th Region (Magallanes) and of 14.9 percent in the 10th Region (Los Lagos).

In fact, these are the three regions with the largest growth in the whole country during Q2 2012. Moreover, Aysén experienced the largest growth seen for any Chilean region since the year 2004.

According to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, Pilar Cuevas, Intendant of the Aysén region, said that the salmon industry is the main responsible for this growth, together with the new regulations on aquaculture licenses and the authorization for more aquaculture licenses at the sea.
