
Reduced roe imports
sChristian Pérez According to a report recently published by the National Fisheries Service (Sernapesca), Chile imported 18.70 million rainbow trout eggs in the first six months of this year, which represents a 25 per cent decrease compared to the 24.95 million eggs imported in the same period of the previous year. Likewise, the country imported 9.4 million Atlantic salmon eggs up to June 2014, representing a 58.4 per cent decrease compared to the 22.6 million eggs imported in the same months of 2013. Atlantic salmon roe imports came from Iceland and rainbow trout roe imports from Denmark in the first six months of this year, just like in 2013. Meanwhile, close to 171.1 million eggs of salmonids have been produced in in the first five months of this year, representing an 11.8 per cent decrease compared to local roe production in the same period of the previous year.
