Record low use of antibiotics
Figures from the National Food Department, shows that the use of antibiotics in the Norwegian fish farming industry continuesly declines. In 2006 the total use of antibiotics was 1605 kilos. This was reduced to 668 kilos in 2007. More than half of this amount was used by the growing cod farming industry.
The salmon industrys share of the total in 2007 was 133 kilos. Divided on the harvested volume of 760 000 tons, its getting close to zero per kilo.
Another intersting tendency is that the Norwegian trout farmers did not use antibiotics at all in 2007.
